Behind every professional photographer is a body of personal work that legitimises the commerciality of the everyday. In my early life as an agent, back in the 1980s, art directors and creatives would always ask “what do your photographers shoot for pleasure?” The secret to every great photographer would appear to be the work they do ‘behind the scenes’ – the images they capture while ‘off duty’, which shed a subtle light on what drives them to continue to create memorable and unique photographs.

The Bigger Picture Gallery, through its website, gallery and eventual pop-up shows, offers a window on the personal world of each of its contributing photographers, revealing the passion, dedication and integrity that continues to make that difference.
